An 18mm chain has room around it for one more layer, not three. The 18mm Flower Setting Cuban in White Gold is the anchor of the stack. What goes beside it is a thin line or a row of ice, and most of the skill is in what you leave out.

Why the 18mm is the anchor

At 18mm, about 0.7 of an inch, this is the widest chain SKRT makes for men, and the Size Guide calls it the maximum showpiece. It comes in 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26 inches. Every link is domed and covered in round settings, so the chain already supplies all the sparkle a neckline needs. That is why the second layer should add a different effect, not more of the same.

Three layers that work

Start with about 2 inches between lengths, and put the narrower chain closer to the neck so the stack steps down in weight. These are three pairings in White Gold, with lengths to try.

The rope under it. A 3mm twist is the plainest contrast. Wear the Rope Chain in White Gold - 3mm at 18 inches and the 18mm at 20. The rope shows above the wide links like a thin line of metal and gives the clusters something plain to push against.

A row of ice. The Diamond Tennis Chain in White Gold - 4mm at 18 inches with the 18mm at 20 adds a single sharp line of light above the clusters. Choose this when you want more shine, but keep it to one row. Two sparkling chains at once flatten each other.

Cuban over Cuban. The Cuban Link Chain in White Gold - 12mm at 20 inches with the 18mm at 22 steps the width from half an inch to seven tenths. The Size Guide gives 24 inches a relaxed drape and 26 to heavy Cubans and layered looks, so the 18mm has room to fall low.

What to leave out

Do not stack a second 18mm chain on this one, and do not look for a pendant to hang from it. No SKRT pendant is verified for a chain this wide, apart from the few with a Large bail. A pendant belongs on a thinner chain, like the rope above, and that chain can then double as your layer. The Size Guide also warns that different widths, textures and pendant weights can overlap or tangle, so check the stack in a mirror before you leave.

Fastening a stack

Put the thin chain on first and fasten the 18mm last. The big clasp is a square block of round settings closed with SKRT's triple-lock closure, one click plus two side clasps, and it is easier to work when nothing else is hanging from your neck.

White Gold, whatever else you wear

The cool, bright look of White Gold makes a stack in it read as one piece of jewelry. Keep every layer in the same finish. A lone Yellow Gold chain in a White Gold stack can read as an accident.

Cleaning and storing a stack

Stacks tangle when stored loose, so give each chain its own pouch or box in a dry spot that is not the bathroom. The 18mm is heavy 18K gold plating over a 316L stainless steel core, hypoallergenic for most skin, and its clusters want a soft microfiber wipe after wear. Keep every layer away from pools, hot tubs and saltwater. See the Care Instructions page for the monthly clean. The chain comes backed by SKRT's Lifetime Guarantee.

Quick answers

How many layers can an 18mm chain carry?

One more, or two thin ones at most. After that the stack hides the clusters you bought it for.

Should the thin chain sit above or below?

Start with the narrower chain closer to the neck and the 18mm lower. Then adjust in the mirror.

Which lengths should I buy?

If you plan to stack, buy the 18mm at 20 or 22 inches. That leaves room for a shorter thin chain above it.
